Early identification of speech-language and hearng difficulties is critical to a child's development and
to future academic success. We would be happy to provide this valuable serivce to the children in your care.
We have a free screening program. The Step Ahead Program provides speech and language screening for children ages 3-5 years old.
This is essential to identifying children who may have speech and language deficits and delays. Children who hear and use lots of words before they enter kindergarten are better prepared to
succeed at reading and writing because of they have developed communication skills.
Teacher workshops can be customized to fit the needs of your organization. Topics include:
techniques to stimulate speech and language
development in the classroom
phonological awareness
creating literacy-rich environments.....and more
Format of workshops can include hands-on training with small groups of teachers in the
classroom or a more typical workshop format. Parent workshops are available for speech, language and literacy development to address
topics such as normal speech language development, reading with children, stuttering and
other related topics.
Referral coordination by certified Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) is also provided. SLPs councel parents about age-appropriate speech and language skills and may provide parent intervention if appropriate. Our SLPs will assist parents with steps to take for scheduling speech and language evaluations and connecting to community resources if necessary.
On-site speech language evaluations and/or therapy may be available at your center, dependent upon therapist availability and need.
Setting up screenings is as easy as 1 2 3.
Schedule a date for your screening by calling (704) 523-8027 ext.22.
- Get parent permission.
- Screenings are completed and the SLP will follow up!
Speech-language screening requires that directors provide date of birth for children being screened and a
quiet location for the SLP to complete the screenings
