All Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists hold a minimum of a master's degree in their specialty, are
licensed by the state of North Carolina, and hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence issued by the American
Speech-Language-Hearing Association or are in their Clinical Fellowship Year. Occasionally, graduate
students complete their clinical practicum at the CSHC. They are closely supervised by certified and licensed staff members.

Shannon Tucker, Executive Director

Shannon received her BA from the University of Florida in 1996 and her MA from the University of Iowa in 1998. Shannon is married with a son and a daughter. She enjoys water and snow skiing and traveling to new places. She is a big UF fan. Go Gators! Shannon has worked at CSHC since February of 2000 with different populations at various sites in her original role as a speech-language pathologist. In 2007 she assumed the role of Development Director and in September of 2010 was offered the position of Executive Director by the CSHC board of directors and gladly accepted.
Areas of professional interest: Language and emergent literacy, business development, community relations, and grant acquisition for community initiatives in the areas of speech, language and hearing. |
| Angie White-Rikard, Director of Speech and Language Services

Angie is a native of Warrenton, NC. She earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Appalachian State University.
She has worked at the CSHC since 2001 and became Director of Speech and Language Services in June 2006.
Angie is a singer/songwriter and enjoys spending time with her husband John, her son Ben and their dog Tilly.

| Joy Mast

Joy is a native of Union County and earned her degrees at UNC-Chapel Hill and James Madison University in VA.
She served as a speech-language pathologist at the Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC before leaving
the field to do missions training in Ireland and Spain and, ultimately, to lead a youth ministry in the DC area.
She joined CSHC full-time in 2008 and enjoys helping the unique population it serves.
Her personal interests include: dancing, playing with her nephews and niece, writing, reading the Bible,
drinking hot beverages, being an obnoxious Tar Heels fan and exploring all the wonders of life.
Areas of professional interest:
Understanding the impact of socio-cultural influences on language development, serving Spanish-speaking clients, and
helping young children who have expressive language delays. |
| Monica Robinson

Monica Robinson earned an undergraduate degree from Cornell University in Applied Economics and Business Management.
She completed the Master's Program in Speech and Language Pathology at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts.
Monica moved to the Charlotte area in August 2006 after serving Boston area children aged birth to three years old for
8 years in a non-profit early intervention program. She lives with her husband and daughter and enjoys singing, traveling,
and shopping.
Areas of professional interest: Monica has several areas of professional interest: Infant and toddler development,
use of music in speech and language treatment, early diagnosis and treatment for children with Autism. |

Hearing Instrument Specialist

Maggie has been working for the Center since May 1999. She was originally hired as a Certified Occupational Hearing
Conservationist for the Center's Industrial Hearing Conservation Program. She has become an integral part
of the Audiology Department, serving as an Audiology Assistant and Hearing Instrument Specialist.
Maggie enjoys serving patients of the Center and loves meeting new people. "Helping someone to hear better is so rewarding.
It's a journey we travel together." |
Nancy McKeown
Audiologist

Dr. Nancy McKeown earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Speech and Hearing
Science from Arizona State University, a Masters of Science in Audiology from San
Francisco State University and a Doctorate of Audiology in 2001 from University of
Florida. She is Board Certified in Audiology by the American Board of Audiology and is
licensed in the states of North Carolina and California as a Dispensing Audiologist.
Dr. McKeown recognizes that hearing loss affects every person and their families
differently, therefore she enjoys working with patients and their families to develop
an individual plan to maximize their hearing ability and decrease the negative effect
associated with hearing loss.
Dr. McKeown is the newest addition to our team. She joined the Center in September
2011 after working for 13 years in California. During her years in California, she worked
in a variety of areas including private practice, retirement homes, and Children’s Hospital
Central California. Her experience in the field of audiology is great and her passion for
helping people hear is even greater.
Areas of professional interest: Pediatric through adult amplification, aural rehabilitation
and counseling.

Emily Scott

Emily grew up in Madison, North Carolina and received both her B.A. in communication studies and her M.S.
in speech-language pathology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During graduate school,
she had clinical experiences working in schools, evaluating young children ages birth to three, working
with adults with Autism, and at an acute care hospital. Emily moved to Charlotte and joined CSHC in
July of 2009. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family, dancing, reading, and being a Tar Heels fan.
Areas of professional interest: working with preschool and school age children with language delays, incorporating literacy activities into therapy sessions. |
Cara Price

Cara is originally from Middletown, NJ. Attended undergraduate at Towson State University in MD and
recieved a Masters of Science at The University of the District of Columbia in Washington, DC.
She been working in the field for 12 years, the majority of her experience has been from her employment with
the San Francisco Unified School District as an Autism Specialist with Elementary and High School students. Cara is
married and has two children. Some of her favorite hobbies and interests include surfing, skiing, hiking, YOGA, Reiki, and Feng Shui.
Areas of professional interest: Cara loves working in this field, she finds a true Joy helping
others develop better communication skills through child language development. She also enjoys working with children who have autism. |
Rhian Vanderburg

Rhian grew up in Burlington, North Carolina. She received her bachelor’s degree from East Carolina University in 2008 and her master’s degree from Western Carolina University in 2010. During graduate school, Rhian participated in a grant from the U.S. Department of Education specializing in individuals with severe and profound disabilities. Rhian moved to Charlotte and joined CSHC in June of 2010. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends and being an avid ECU football fan.

Gretchen McGinty

Gretchen is a native Charlottean. She earned a B.F.A. in Theatre at University of NC School of the Arts and her M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology at UNC-Greensboro. Her clinical experiences include working with school-age and high school children with speech and language delays as well as autism and fluency disorders. She has worked with adults seeking voice therapy, aural rehabilitation and accent modification. In her free time, she enjoys attending the theatre, playing volleyball and spending time
with her dog, Mr. Darcy.

Liza Stahnke

Liza moved to North Carolina shortly after receiving her B.S. in Early Childhood Education in 2006 from Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio. The land of hospitality, mild winters and BBQ won her over and she?s now a Carolinian for life! Liza taught 3rd grade for two years in Durham before attending UNC Chapel Hill for her Masters in Speech Language Pathology. Her clinical experiences include working with children of all ages and needs in elementary schools, hospitals, family homes and private clinics. She has also worked with adults in a rehab hospital setting. Liza married Mike, a native Charlottean, in June 2011 and she loves getting to know the Queen City as her new home. Liza also enjoys traveling, being outdoors, trying new foods, and singing!
Areas of professional interest: literacy in therapy activities, early identification and early intervention of autism spectrum disorders, empowering parents to take part in their children?s development, and using augmentative and alternative communication to build language and relationships.

Elizabeth is from Greenville, South Carolina. She received her undergraduate degree from Clemson University and her master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from the University of South Carolina. Elizabeth moved to Charlotte during the summer of 2011 and joined our team in October of 2011. Her clinical experience includes working with pre-school and school age children in a variety of settings including schools, private practice, hospitals and rehab facilities. During her free time Elizabeth enjoys traveling, running, reading, baking and cheering on the Clemson Tigers!
Areas of professional interest: working with preschool and school age children with language delays and children with autism.

Mya is a native Charlottean. She earned an undergraduate degree from South Carolina State University in Speech Pathology and Audiology and a master’s degree from UNC-Greensboro in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Mya served preschool and school age children in the Charlotte public school system for several years before joining the Charlotte Speech and Hearing team in the summer of 2011. She enjoys reading, traveling, shopping and spending time with friends and family.
Areas of professional interest: language and literacy based therapy, providing parent and teacher education, and working with children with apraxia and articulation disorders.

Susan Hill
Financial Administrator/Office Manager

Susan comes to Charlotte Speech and Hearing Center with 20 years of extensive experience in business management and financial accounting, representing both profit and non-profit entities and has overseen financial, broadcasting, marketing, and medical operations. She has specific experience financial management, corporate legal oversight, intellectual property, strategic research and development, customized systems and infrastructure.
Following 15 years specific experience in Broadcast television for an international cable and satellite television network, Ms. Hill co-founded The Broadcast Group, Inc., a turn-key broadcasting-production-facilities design-satellite uplink/simulcast-management consulting company. Susan’s marketing background includes launching a new international print and publication division for Celebration, Inc., directing its marketing and distribution to 1 million in print, quarterly.
In addition, Susan has prior experience in Financial and Office Management for a progressive and growth-oriented medical practice, where she implemented systems and marketing strategies resulting in significantly increased profit margins. Susan’s education includes attending CPCC, Charlotte, NC; Southeastern Academy, Kissimmee, FL; and Sterling Management, a proprietary business management school in Glendale, California. |
Tina Courtney

Tina Courtney has been employed with Charlotte Speech and Hearing since November 2000. She has a background in Medicaid billing, accounts receivables/payables, and customer service. Tina moved to the Charlotte area in 2000 from Virginia. She lives with her husband and twin daughters. She enjoys camping, shopping and spending time with her family. |
Threasa Lambert
Back Office Coordinator

Threasa has over 30 years experience including office management, payroll, accounts payable and receivable and customer service. She loves daily interaction with people, meeting their needs and facilitating a happy and pleasant visit experience. Threasa has three children and a dog named Riley. She is originally from Virginia and moved to Charlotte in 1994. Threasa is a true people person and loves Zumba! |
Jackie Fogartie

Jackie is originally from New Jersey, but spent has most of her years in Charlotte. She graduated from Miami University (Ohio) with a Bachelors Degree in Communications in 2005. After a 5 year stint of paralegal work at a law firm, Jackie came to Charlotte Speech and Hearing. Jackie also has experience in Event Planning and Design. Jackie is married to her husband Stu. She loves to cook up a storm, read a good book (or magazine!) and spend time with her husband.
