A screening is a brief look at the child's speech, language, or hearing skills and is followed by a parent consultation. This is not a diagnosis of a deficit, but is a tool used to determine if further testing is necessary. The procedure usually takes about 30 minutes. Click Here for Information about our mass screening services (completed at child care center) can be found in the definition section of our website.

An evaluation is an in-depth analysis of communication skills. A complete case history is gathered through client/family interviews and investigation of previous testing, medical and birth histories. Evaluation of sound produciton, receptive and expressive language, fluency, voice and oral motor skills is completed via the standardized assessment tools, clinical observation an parent questionairres.

  • Prior to your/your child's appointment a packet of information regarding the evaluation will be mailed to you. Please complete the paperwork in the packet and present it when you check in for the evaluation. This will speed up the evaluation process greatly.
  • All speech/language evaluations come with a complimentary hearing screening. Very young children may not allow the hearing screening. Your therapist will discuss the various options for them.
  • Testing may take between one and two hours, depending on the type of concern and the age of the client
  • Included in the cost of the evaluation is a consultation with the therapist at the end of the session. We will attempt to have a written summary and diagnosis for you before you leave, but this may be impossible if you are late for your appointment or if testing takes too long. Please allow 7-10 working days for a formal, written copy of your evaluation.

You may enroll in therapy once you have received a diagnosis either here or from another facility. The therapist will review the evaluation and diagnosis and work with you to determine goals that are appropriate for you/your child. It may take a few sessions before the therapist can estimate how long therapy will last.

Young children are generally seen 1-2 times per week for half hour sessions. Older children and adults may opt for half hour or one hour sessions, depending on need and scheduling requirements.
