Our parent and teacher education efforts are in full swing already this fall. Our therapists have provided 4 teacher workshops on topics ranging from language and literacy stimulation to identifying communication disorders in preschoolers. These workshops qualify for continuing education credit from the state of NC and provide child care workers with strategies and skills to promote the kindergarten readiness of children throughout our community. We have also started a new ÒMom & MeÓ program that educates mothers of infants and toddlers on speech-language development and stimulation.
Our speech-language department has also jumped into Fall speech screenings at local preschools and daycares. In addition to speech screenings we provide hearing screenings, full evaluations at the child's school if needed, as well as parent education and referral assistance. If you are interested in our workshops or screening programs please contact Angie Rikard 704 523-8027 x25 or arikard@charlottespeechhearing.com. You can also visit our website for more information [charlottespeechhearing.com].
Our hearing department provided free screenings to children at the Junior League of Charlotte's Kid's Health Link in August. They also completed an in-service on hearing health and the care of hearing aids to a variety health care providers at an assisted living facility where one of our clients resides. Thank you to the CSHC team for continuing to spread awareness and provide education about communication disorders in our community!

"Pardon our Mess" was the phrase of the day from August 28th -30th. This marked the first of three phases to
give the Center a new look. Over 20 volunteers and 17 staff members got out their rollers and brushes and
painted the clinical areas of the Center. Shannon Tucker and Angie Rikard coordinated the teams and led
the effort to finish by Sunday evening. CSHC staff and Junior League volunteers worked hard all day
Friday and throughout the weekend, they were joined by Will Smoak and other United Way volunteers on
Saturday and by the Weddington Community Church Youth Group as well as CSHC Board member, Jim Sutton,
and his son on Sunday. Special thanks to everyone who gave up a weekend to help us! Phase II will be Oct 16th
and 17th. Phase III will have our Artist, Susan Nuttall and her volunteers painting murals and designs
throughout the Center.
I am also excited to unveil our new logo and mission statement (see bottom page of this newsletter). Our board
and staff put their heads together over the last several months to complete this part of our strategic plan.
We also created value statements that we feel best reflect the uniqueness, quality and integrity of Charlotte
Speech and Hearing Center. We are still looking for candidates for our Board of Directors, please contact me
(704 523-8027 x22) if you have any suggestions or are interested in serving on the CSHC board. Thank you for
taking the time to catch up with us and enjoy the fall in Charlotte!
